No Kill Status

No Kill Status

GCHS has operated as a no kill shelter since 1999. No kill status can only be achieved when at least 90% of all incoming animals are saved.

What No Kill Means

No animal will be euthanized for space, length of stay or breed considerations.

Unfortunately, there are times when an animal is very ill or suffering and we have to make the decision to humanely euthanize that animal. There are other times when an animal is a danger to staff and the public, and therefore not adoptable, when we must euthanize. The decision to euthanize any animal is not taken lightly at GCHS and we look to every option before we make that final decision.
