Found a Stray?

Found a Stray?

What to do:

Contact local law enforcement.

After you notify your appropriate agency, you will be asked to contact the shelter. In some situations, law enforcement will tell you they'll contact us directly. We will make arrangements to acquire the animal.
Non-Emergency Numbers:

Monroe Police:
(608) 329-2400
Green County Sheriff:
(608) 328-9400
Lafayette County Sheriff:
(608) 776-4870

Service area:

GCHS only takes domestic cats and dogs from Green County. We only take dogs from Lafayette County.

You should know:

GCHS does not accept feral or trapped cats. Please see our FAQ page for more information.

Why do I need to involve law enforcement?

Oftentimes, people report missing animals to law enforcement. If a match can be made with an owner without involving a trip to the shelter, it is far less stressful for the animal.

As GCHS is not an animal control body, we are not permitted by law to bring stray animals to the shelter without permission from law enforcement.
