New Shelter Update: Matching Funds from
Colony Brands
We are pleased to report that we have raised
much of the $850,000 needed to break ground on a new 13,824 square foot shelter building --
thanks to many generous donations from citizens and businesses in Green County.
Colony Brands has pledged a $100,000 matching funds grant
toward future donations to get us the rest of the way there! If you would like to help us
build a new shelter (and double your donation), please visit the new shelter section
of the website for ways to help.
Morning Dog Walkers
Needed
GCHS needs volunteer dog walkers in the
mornings (weekdays and weekends). Volunteers can
walk dogs anytime between 8:00am-12:00pm. Please
contact the shelter at (608) 325-9600 if you are interested in volunteering.
Pawlapalooza

Green County Humane Society is holding the 3rd Annual Pawlapalooza on May 19 from
5:00pm-8:00pm. The event raises funds and awareness for the animals housed at the shelter.
Participants can expect a lovely evening of five courses of heavy hors d’oeuvres paired
with selected wines. Attendees may also participate in a silent auction with items donated
by local artists and businesses and a very entertaining live auction of fiberglass animals
designed by area high school students (pictured).
Tickets for the event are $50 and available by calling the Monroe Chamber of Commerce at
325-7648.
Raffle tickets, with a grand prize of $2,000 cash, are also available at the shelter or
from any board or committee member. The drawing will be held at the event. Raffle winners
need not be present to win.
Spay/Neuter Day
GCHS and ENAH 11th Spay/Neuter Day will be held on Thursday, June 7,
2012.
Each year, an
unaltered female cat will produce an average of three litters, each with four to six
kittens. Those kittens will quickly mature and produce their own litters -- which in
turn will mature and have more kittens. It’s a tragic cycle that results in a grim
reality: every year, millions of cats and kittens end up homeless, facing starvation,
harsh conditions and needless suffering.
To help stop
the cycle of cat overpopulation, the Green County Humane Society (GCHS) and Everyone
Needs a Home (ENAH) are once again teaming up to offer free spays or neuters for cats
owned by those with a financial need. The organizations have contracted with the Dane
County Humane Society’s mobile spay/neuter unit to come to Monroe and provide alteration
surgeries. So far, GCHS and ENAH have teamed together to spay/neuter 300 cats at 10
previous events. The event on June 7 is the second of four to be held in 2012, and is
funded in part by the United Way.
Residents of
both Green and Lafayette counties are eligible. Spots for the free surgery day are
expected to fill up fast. There is a limit of two cats per household. Cats must be in
good health and free of respiratory illness. Cats must be tame enough to be handled and
must be transported in a pet carrier. Cats living in outdoor homes are
eligible.
Monroe Auto
Sales, 101 W. Eighth St., is donating use of its facility for the free Spay/Neuter Day.
Cats must be dropped off in the morning and DCHS veterinary staff will perform the
surgeries. After a short recovery period, cats will be released to their owners that
afternoon after 5:00.
Registration begins on May 24. On
or after that date, please call (608) 543-3637 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00
p.m.
