GREEN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

The meeting was called to order by Yvonne Schutte.  Board members present were Mary Jane Grenzow, Barb Gerber, Mick McClain, Tracey Pederson, Tina Gilbert, Paul Barrett, Sherri Fiduccia, Chris Sokup and Heidi Treuthardt.  Also present were Tonya Kelly, Jarrett Kelly and Chris Baumgartner.

The minutes from the February meeting were approved. 

 

Shelter Director -Tonya reported that we have 39 cats in the trailer, 58 in the cattery and 4 ring worm.  There is a total of 21 cats to spay or neuter.  We have 50 dogs in the kennels with 24 to spay or neuter.  There are 4 cats and 7 dogs in foster care.  Tonya reports that the cost to care for the 20 dogs that were rescued is about $300 per week.  So far GCHS has spent $250 for food, $700 for labor, $350 for meds and shots and $40 for gas. 

 

Treasurer’s report-As of  Feb 29 the shelter has a net income of $5,176.32.  Paul informed the board that we now have the ACH option for donating and paying dues or sponsorship.  The service will give people the option of automatically deducting their donation from their checking account.  Click n Pledge and Pay Pal are still available.  The service is free with maintaining a $40,000 balance otherwise the fee is $25 per month.  Each transaction is .12.

 

Kris Baumgartner from Tofflers in New Glarus offered her restaurant and bar to host a wine tasting, silent auction and band.  This will be on April 5th.  The wine event will be from 4 to 6, the cost is $20 and reservations will be taken.  The band is from 8 to 12 and a $5 donation will be taken at the door.  Board member unanimously agreed that it was a wonderful offer and volunteered to help.

 

SNAP-We have 2860 left and will receive another 5000 for 2008.  The board agreed to donate 1500 to Peggy Miller of ENAH (Everyone Needs A Home).  Some of the extra canned cat food we have will also be donated.

 

Old Business

 

The Shelter has acquired a new Ford Freestar van.  It was given to the shelter at cost which was $6300.  This amount was paid by an anonymous donor.  The van comes with a 5 year 48,000 mi warranty with free oil changes.  Mike Jerge also donated $1000 and will make numerous other improvements.  The van has 55K miles on it.

 

Committee Reports

 

 

Nominating-Chris Sokup, Sherri Fiduccia, Mick McClain, Tracey Pederson and Sue Curran gave their letters in intent to run for the board to the secretary. Chris Sokup’s term was changed to expire in one year to even out the number of terms that expire each year.

 

Fund raising-March 15 the Girls Scouts from Brodhead will be having a bake sale at the bank in Brodhead.  Volunteers are needed to walk dogs in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.  On March 20th Dominque Schneider is hosting a bake sale at Amcore Bank.  Pedal For  Paws is in great need for volunteers.  Grant applications are due April 1st and Oct. 1st for shelters.

 

Volunteers-Pet A Thon and Pedal for Paws need lots of volunteers.  The  Pet a Thon is May 31st and June 1st at Slice.  The Beast Buffet is helping.  Vendors are being contacted and a fee will be set.  Nancy Mathews, a hypnotist, wants to host a quit smoking session with the proceeds going to GCHS.  A date will be set.

 

Adoption Applications/Inspection-the committee is improving the checklist so it matches with the protocols.  A class will be held for all people that will be conducting home inspections.  New committee members are being added to help with inspections.

 

Buildings and Grounds-Paul reported that the washer is fixed and working.  Steve Jacobson donated a smaller washer and dryer that will be used for backup.  He building committee met and they will be present at the annual meeting to answer any questions.  An update will be presented by the committee in June. 

 

Public Relations-A motion was made and passed to renew the raffle license.  All items are due for the April 15th newsletter.  The website is still in need of redoing.  Mary Jane is hopeful that a volunteer will come forward soon. 

 

Membership-Paul suggested that the board look into creating a tier system or membership level system with the possibility of a junior membership level. 

 

Executive-Yvonne reported that she shelter is in need of qualified part time employees.

 

Foster Homes-There are 7 dogs and 4 cats in foster care.  There are 5 pending applications for homes to foster.
